UPDATE: Man Who Jumped in Front of NJ Transit Train Allegedly Killed his Roommate before his Suicide in Garfield

The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit, the Garfield Police Department, and the New Jersey Transit Police Department are investigating the deaths of two males that occurred on Saturday.

Police say at 3:53 p.m., the Garfield Police Department was notified that a male had been struck by a New Jersey Transit train in an apparent suicide.

Upon arrival, officers found the lifeless body under the train.

According to police while the investigation into the suicide was ongoing, at 10:26 p.m., the Garfield Police Department received a 9-1-1 call reporting an unconscious male lying in a pool of blood in an apartment at 27 Macarthur Avenue, basement apartment.

Officers determined the individual was deceased and contacted the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office. The ensuing investigation by the Major Crimes Unit has determined the male at 27 Macarthur Avenue was attacked and is the victim of a homicide.

The investigation is ongoing, but at this time it is believed the two deaths are related.

No further information will be released pending the notification of next of kin, and the results of the autopsies being conducted by the Bergen County Medical Examiner’s Office.
