Update: Man Swam to Shore After Abandoning Watercraft

A 19-year-old man spent the entire night on a buoy in the Jersey Coast before swimming to shore early this morning.

According to officials, the man - in a personal watercraft - left Gravesend Bay in Brooklyn heading to around 7:30 p.m. last night.

When family did not hear from him, family contacted the Coast Guard, who initiated a search for the man with New York and New Jersey agencies.

Shortly before 6 a.m the man arrived to shore.

According to the man, his watercraft became filled with water and stopped working. The man then decided to abandon the watercraft and swim towards the area of Sandy Hook in the Raritan Bay. 

Upon reaching shore, he was transported to Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank to be treated for dehydration and hypothermia.

The identity of the man has been withheld by authorities.
