Police in Elizabeth continues to investigate a Wednesday night shooting that left a man suffering multiple gunshot wounds.
According to police, officers responded to Trinitas Hospital after a 22-year-old man arrived to the hospital's emergency department suffering injuries from gunfire.
The unidentified victim told police that as he was walking near Cherry and Murray streets around 8 p.m., he was approached by three men who reportedly asked for directions. Shortly after, one of the men pulled out a light-colored handgun and as the victim ran towards his vehicle, he heard three shots.
Immediately after realizing he had been shot near his knee and in the chest, the victim drove himself to Trinitas Hospital, police said.
The victims's injuries were not immediately reported as life threatening.
The shooting remains under investigation by the Elizabeth Police Department.
