Update: Man Posing as Water Company Employee Burglarizes Clark Home

Clark

A man posing as a water company employee looking to check water for signs of natural gas in the water wound up stealing jewelry and money from inside the house.

Police responded to a Fulton Street home at approximately 4 p.m. for a report of a diversionary type burglary.

The residents reported that a tall, slender built, Hispanic male wearing some kind of identification around his neck knocked on their door. The suspect stated he worked for the water company and needed to check their water for signs of natural gas in the water.

The homeowners were eventually led into the basement but at some point the suspect left the basement without the resident’s knowledge.

They subsequently discovered cash and jewelry missing.

Police believe that the suspect might have been assisted by a second suspect.

Residents are reminded not to let anyone inside their homes without first confirming their identity by calling the company they claim to represent.

Do not use any phone numbers on any credentials they may present to you to confirm their identification. Get a phone number for that specific company off the internet or yellow pages.
