CORRECTION: Irvington officials have corrected earlier information stating the gunshot victim was not fatally injured and is now in severe condition. ”There were multiple shooting victims at University Hospital on Saturday. The Newark and this Irvington shooting occurred nearly simultaneously”.
Gunmen targeted a man in Irvington then fired multiple times leaving the victim critically injured at a housing complex in Irvington.
It happened shortly before 1:45 p.m. in the teens block of Crescent Lane.
Police said gunfire rang out at the complex, sending police to the scene where they found an unidentified man struck by bullets.
Irvington officials said the man was pronounced dead shortly after being shot.
While police investigated at the scene, a gunshot victim entered Beth Israel Hospital suffering non-life threatening bullet wounds.
Police are trying to determine if a third gunshot victim, who entered the hospital, was shot at Crescent Lane.
The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office has been notified of the shooting.
The suspect fled the scene and is at large.
