UPDATE: Man Charged with Stabbing Summit Woman to Death in Newark’s Ironbound Section

Authorities in Essex County have arrested a man wanted for the brutal murder of a Union County woman in Newark Friday morning. 

Mr. Ramunas Katkus, 49, of Summit, was charged with three counts, which included Murder and Possession of a Weapon for Unlawful Purposes, according to county public documents.

Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens II said on Friday, Newark Police discovered Ms. Angelika Miles, 28, of Summit, in the 500 block of Ferry Street in Newark around 3:45 a.m.

Prosecutor Stephens said Miles suffered stab wounds and was transported to University Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 4:42 a.m.

Witnesses said Miles was also suffering blunt trauma consistent with being run over by a vehicle. 

Homicide

They believe that Miles and Katkus were acquainted. 

The investigation, which includes detectives from the Newark Police Department, is active and ongoing.
