UPDATE: Man Arrested for Mass Shooting that Killed Two, Injured 12 in Fairfield Township

Cumberland County

Cumberland County Prosecutor Jennifer Webb-McRae charged Mr. Kevin Dawkins, 36, Bridgeton, with a mass shooting that killed two people and injured 12 others Saturday.

Officials said this was an ongoing investigation and more arrests are anticipated.

NJ Attorney General Gurbir Grewal said the shooting was not a random act but instead was a targeted attack.

According to Grewal, multiple firearms were recovered from the scene.

Grewal said that the state would be working with federal partners to determine where the guns originated from and whether they can be linked to other recent acts of violence in the area.

The two victims who were killed have been identified as Mr. Kevin Elliot, 30 and Ms. Asia Hester, both from Bridgeton.

State Police officials said more than 100 people packed a large house on E. Commerce Street in Fairfield Township around 11:50 p.m. Saturday when gunfire rang out.

Six of the victims were rushed to Cooper University Hospital Sunday morning. Officials said two victims were released, but four others remain hospitalized.

Police say the organizers threw the party, but it's unclear what purpose or if the organizers owned the house.

The incident is in its early stages of the investigation.
