Essex County officials announced today that Mr. Angel Velez, 56, of Newark has been arrested and charged with the murder of Mr. Salustino Santiago, 49, of Newark.
Police say the victim’s dismembered body was found on the 100 block of Chancellor Avenue in the City of Newark on November 20. Velez has been charged with murder and desecration of human remains.
The incident is believed to be a domestic incident that involved a woman who was in a relationship with one of the men when Velez allegedly went into a rage.
Mr. Santiago was reportedly cut into multiple pieces.
All defendants are presumed innocent unless and until they enter a guilty plea or are found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. Velez is currently being held at the Essex County Correctional Facility in Newark.
