Attorney General Matthew J. Platkin, alongside the Division of Criminal Justice (DCJ) and the New Jersey State Police (NJSP), initiated an investigation into an incident at the George Washington Bridge in Fort Lee on Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2024. AHAAG Platkin said two individuals, now in custody, are accused of eluding police and ramming multiple vehicles, including those of law enforcement and commuters, in a dangerous confrontation during rush hour.

The episode began when law enforcement attempted to intercept a Range Rover as it neared the entrance to the bridge.

Reports indicate that the vehicle, in a bid to escape, collided with several cars belonging to both officers and civilians. The pursuit culminated with the apprehension of the vehicle's occupants, identified only as juveniles, who were detained at the scene.

This joint investigation by the DCJ and NJSP underscores the commitment of New Jersey law enforcement's commitment to public safety and maintaining order on the state's roads and critical infrastructure.

Attorney General Platkin expressed his gratitude towards the law enforcement personnel involved, highlighting their role in averting what could have been a catastrophic series of injuries.

He reaffirmed the state's dedication to ensuring the safety of its citizens and the integrity of its transportation networks.

Details of the incident remain under investigation, with authorities currently withholding additional information as they proceed.
