UPDATE: Investigation Continues Into Triple Shooting in Newark

Police in Newark are continuing to investigating a violent shooting incident that sent three people to the hospital overnight in the city.

Police detained a possible suspect involved in the shooting where gunfire erupted in the vicinity of 123 South 7th Street at around 10 p.m.

According to police, the gunman fired off multiple shots in the area striking and causing serious injuries to the victims.

Several police units closed off the area while detectives canvassed the area for suspects and evidence to support a motive.

Police officers were able to locate a vehicle on South 20th Street and Springfield Avenue that fit the description of the car observed speeding away from the scene.

A male was taken into custody at the scene, but police have not immediately confirmed if the man seen being placed in handcuffs is the suspect wanted for the shooting.

The Essex County Prosecutor's Office has confirmed non-fatal injuries as of 5:29 a.m. this morning -Friday-.

**NPD UPDATE 6:04 AM:** ”Shortly before 10 p.m., Police responded to the 100-block of South 7th Street on a Shot Spotter notification. Upon officers' arrival, they located three male victims in the area, all suffering from non-life threatening injuries. Each victim was transported to University Hospital for treatment. The investigation remains active and ongoing”.
