Authorities said a Union Township woman was taken into custody after a man was fatally stabbed inside a local apartment complex late Saturday evening.

According to a statement released by the Union County Prosecutor’s Office, 39-year-old Erika Hampton was charged with first-degree murder, third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and fourth-degree unlawful possession of a weapon.
The charges stemmed from the death of 37-year-old Nana Kwadwo Takyi Ankamah, also of Union.
Police reported that at around 10:06 p.m. on October 18, officers were dispatched to the Vermella Union Apartments after receiving a call about an unresponsive individual.
When officers arrived, they found Ankamah suffering from a stab wound. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Prosecutors said investigators were still working to determine the circumstances behind the stabbing.
Officials have not ruled out whether the incident was connected to domestic violence and have not disclosed a possible motive at this time.

The case remained under active investigation.
