UPDATE: Hillside Man Arrested for Shooting Newark Man Multiple Times

A man who was wanted for unloading several shots, striking a man in Newark's South Ward has been arrested.

According to Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose police took Yusuf Brown, 22, of Hillside, -who was wanted for a shooting that occurred on Tuesday, December 20, 2016-into custody.

Director Ambrose said, at approximately 6 p.m., a 21-year old male victim was shot in the area of Bergen Street and Lyons Avenue following a verbal disagreement with the suspect.

The victim was transported to University Hospital, where he is said to be in critical, but stable condition.

As a result of their investigation, detectives determined that Yusuf Brown is a suspect in this shooting Director Ambrose said.

A $35,000.00 warrant for his arrest was issued by the Honorable Wanda Nieves, J.M.C.

Brown was arrested yesterday and charged with Aggravated Assault, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon and Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose.

These charges are merely accusations.

The suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
