UPDATE: Gunmen Kill Man in Newark’s South Ward

Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II, and Newark Public Safety Director Brian O’Hara announced today that the Newark Police Department and the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Task Force are investigating the fatal shooting of a Newark resident.

Police say Thursday, December 30, at approximately 10:11 p.m., Newark Police officers responded to reports of shots fired in the area of 260 Pomona Avenue.

As officers were arriving at the scene, they received a report that a male suffering from gunshot wounds was dropped off at a local hospital.

Newark officers responded to the hospital and located the victim, who has been identified as Mr. Quamir Nelson, 24, of Newark.

Police say Nelson was pronounced dead at 10:42 p.m.

No arrests have been made.

The investigation is active and ongoing.
