Police are investigating a shooting in Newark’s South Ward that left one man injured Tuesday evening.
According to preliminary information, officers were dispatched after a ShotSpotter gunfire detection system alerted authorities to multiple rounds fired near 60-62 Hanford Street.
Officials said the system detected eight gunshots, prompting a swift police response.
When officers arrived, they located an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound to the back near 41 Evergreen Avenue.
The victim was conscious and responsive at the scene before being transported for medical treatment. Authorities said he was listed in stable condition.
Investigators also found a vehicle that had been struck by gunfire in the area.
Police immediately established a crime scene and searched the neighborhood for the suspect or suspects responsible for the shooting, but no arrests have been announced.
The motive for the shooting remains under investigation, and anyone with information is urged to contact the Newark Police Department.
