UPDATE: Gunman Shoots 37-Year-Old Newark Man Multiple Times; Fatal Injuries

Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II reported that the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force is investigating the fatal shooting of Mr. Wesley Murphy, 37, of Newark.

Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Spokesman Robert Florida said  on Friday, May 19, at 2:35 a.m., police responded to a report of a shooting on the 100 block of Lindsley Avenue, Newark.

Police say shortly after, there was a separate report of a motor vehicle accident on the 200 block of Sunset Avenue in Newark.

Police responded to the accident scene and located Murphy in a car suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

He was transported to University Hospital and pronounced dead at 3:14 a.m.

The investigation is active and ongoing. No arrests have been made.
