UPDATE: Gunfire Heard on Video after Shooting at Newport Mall; Two Shot

Several 911 calls into Jersey City Police headquarters reporting a fight that broke out inside the food court at the Newport Mall this evening ended in gunfire with two individuals suffering critical injuries.

It happened inside the crowded food court at the mall where police said several people 'who were not at the mall to shop' began to engage in confrontation.

During the confrontation, police said at least one of the suspects pulled a gun and began to fire at the other, causing shoppers to run for their lives.

Police rushed to the mall and found one victim suffering a gunshot wound to the arm.

Shortly after, officials at the Jersey City Medical Center contacted police and reported two people entered the mall with one of them suffering a gunshot wound to the abdomen.

According to police, one of the victims was wanted in connection with several shootings around Jersey City, but police stopped short of saying if the incident was gang-related.

The mayor thanked law enforcement officers who arrived at the scene and would only say that "shootings are down in Jersey City."

The incident remains under investigation.
