Police in Newark are currently investigating a shooting incident that occurred in downtown Newark on Saturday afternoon.
The situation occurred outside a Whole Foods supermarket and led to shots being fired, prompting alarm among shoppers.
The incident occurred near the intersection of Halsey Street and New Street around 3:50 p.m., prompting a swift response from local authorities.
Officers who arrived quickly at the scene taped off several streets surrounding the Haynes building, where they found multiple shell casings and a weapon.
Alerted by witnesses, an emergency responder who was nearby notified additional police to assist at the scene.
Three individuals were detained and believed to be connected to the incident.
The motive behind the shooting is currently under thorough investigation by the Newark Police.
Despite the tense atmosphere and the presence of gunfire, it was reported that no injuries occurred during the shooting.
