UPDATE: Gunfire Erupts Newark Near Recreation Center Strikes Teen

The gun violence crisis in Newark is at a boiling point. Another teenager has been gunned down Saturday afternoon in the city's West Ward.

Police say a gunman fired several rounds in the direction of a teenage boy in the 900 block of South Avenue around 3:30 p.m. 

Bullets struck the unidentified victim near the Boyland Street Recreation Center, rushing police to the scene to investigate. 

When police arrived, they taped off the area after locating shell casings at the scene. 

EMS rushed the boy to University Hospital for treatment while police searched for a dark-colored vehicle that fired shots in the area before speeding away from the scene. 

The motive for the shooting is under investigation.
