The Essex County Prosecutor's office has confirmed a deadly shooting that occurred in Bloomfield on Wednesday night.
Officials said Bloomfield and Newark Police responded to residents’ calls reporting about a half dozen rounds of gunfire in the area of First Avenue and North 15th Street around 8:30 p.m.
When officers arrived, they found a man lying on the ground fighting for his life after a shooter fired shots at him.
Emergency personnel attempted CPR on the unresponsive victim, who was ultimately pronounced dead a short time later, according to Essex County officials.
Bloomfield Police confirmed that the shooting occurred on their side of the border then initiated the investigation.
The motive for the shooting remains under investigation.
The suspect is at-large.
