UPDATE: Essex Prosecutor Announces Arrest in Fatal Hit-and-Run of NJIT Student on Street in Newark

Essex County authorities have announced an arrest in a hit-and-run incident that killed an NJIT student near the campus earlier in the month.

Officials say on Tuesday, November 13, at approximately 9:20 p.m., **Ms. Naomi R. Segura, 25, of Byram Township**, was struck in the area of Central Avenue and Summit Street in Newark.

The horrifying incident that was captured on surveillance camera showed Segura enter the roadway and a red SUV style vehicle strike her then speed away from the scene.

Officials say Segura died a short time later at University Hospital.

In a brief statement released by a spokesperson for the Essex County Prosecutor's Office, officials said they arrested Brianna Williams, 21, of East Orange, then charged her with knowingly leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident involving a death and failure to render assistance.

The spokesperson said Williams is scheduled for a detention hearing on Thursday.
