A 25-year-old Elizabeth resident was critically injured after gunfire erupted near Mattano Park this afternoon.
Police responded to South 5th Street for a report of shots fired.
Upon arrival, police found the 25-year-old victim, who was reportedly walking past Mattano Park, when he was struck by gunfire.
EMS rushed the victim to University Hospital where doctors listed him in critical condition.
The suspect was described as a possibly Hispanic or white male, last seen fleeing the scene on a bicycle towards Summer Street.
