A shooting that injured a man in earlier this afternoon in Elizabeth now has the local YMCA closing for the evening as a precaution.
The following is a statement released this evening by officials: "Due to unforeseen circumstances, the Elizabeth YMCA Branch will close this evening, April 11, 2017. Our members are welcome to use the Five Points Branch, Wellness Center Branch or Rahway Branch. For class schedules or more information, please visit our web site."
The victim was transported to the hospital in serious condition after gunfire rang out in the area of Lafayette Street and Madison Avenue striking the victim in the head according to reports.
There were no arrests reported.
The investigation is active and ongoing.
