UPDATE: Early Morning Shooting Injures Work Release Inmate in Newark

Newark Police responded to a call of multiple shots fired in the area of Toler Place near the Logan Hall halfway house today.

Authorities said at approximately 6:45 a.m., responding officers found two victims who had been shot at that location.

One victim is a work release inmate who was heading to work.

Both victims were transported to an area hospital and are listed in stable condition.

A parked gray 2003 4-door Lincoln LS was also struck by multiple gunshots authorities said.

“This shooting was not a random act,” stated Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose.

“The investigation is active an ongoing.”
