UPDATE: Off-Duty Paterson Police Officer Credited for Apprehending Suspects Wanted for Shooting Michigan Girl

Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Deputy Paterson Police Chief Heriberto Rodriguez announce that based upon an investigation by the Paterson Police Department, in conjunction with the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office; Andre Green, 20, from Paterson; Kashief Davis, 24, from Paterson; and Jaquan Lugo, 22, from Paterson, were arrested today in relation to a shooting incident that took place earlier this morning in the area of Carroll Street and 12th Avenue in Paterson.

Based upon an investigation, a total of 6 victims were identified, however the only victim who sustained injuries is a 17-year- old juvenile female from Michigan, who remains in stable but critical condition at Saint Joseph’s Regional Medical Center from multiple gunshot wounds.

Mr. Green, Mr. Davis, and Mr. Lugo are all charged with six counts of Attempted Murder, first degree; three counts Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, second degree; eighteen counts of Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, second degree; and one count of Possession of a Prohibited Weapon and Device, fourth degree. In addition Mr. Lugo is charged with Certain Persons not to Possess Weapons, second degree.

According to authorities, Police Officer J.B. of the Paterson Police Department was off duty and heard gunfire coming from the area of 114 Godwin Avenue at approximately 2:21 a.m. As he approached he saw a group of individuals fleeing in a vehicle and began to follow.

As he followed, an individual in the vehicle began to fire at Officer J.B. At no time did Officer J.B. return fire.

He continued to follow the vehicle, which was eventually stopped in front of 187 Clinton Street, and all of its occupants attempted to flee. Officer J.B. and other responding members of the Paterson Police Department were able to detain three individuals later identified as Andre Green, Kashief Davis, and Jaquan Lugo. Thankfully, Officer J.B. was not injured.

The sentencing exposure on First Degree Attempted Murder is 10-20 years New Jersey State Prison with 85% of that term to be served before parole eligibility pursuant to the No Early Release Act, five years parole supervision thereafter; on Second Degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, it is 5-10 years New Jersey State Prison with a minimum of 3 1⁄2 years before parole eligibility pursuant to the Graves Act; on Second Degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, it is 5-10 years New Jersey State Prison with a minimum of 3 1⁄2 years before parole eligibility pursuant to the Graves Act; on Fourth Degree Possession of a Prohibited Weapon and Device, it is up to 18 months New Jersey State Prison; on Second Degree Certain

Persons not to Possess Weapons, it is 5-10 years New Jersey State Prison with 5 years of parole ineligibility pursuant to the Graves Act.

Andre Green, Kashief Davis, and Jaquan Lugo are scheduled to appear at Central Judicial Processing on Monday at 1:30 pm.

The State intends to file a motion for pretrial detention in this matter that will be heard by a Superior Court Judge.

The investigation remains active and ongoing. More Information will be released once it becomes available.

A criminal complaint is merely an accusation. Despite this accusation, defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
