UPDATE: Driver Sought in Fatal Woodbridge Hit-and-Run

Woodbridge Township

Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey and Director Robert Hubner of the Woodbridge Police Department announce today that authorities are actively searching for the driver that fled after striking and killing a 31-year old pedestrian on Route 1 South, just south of the Route 35 exit early this morning.

The deceased pedestrian was identified as John Kukuch Jr., 31, of Woodbridge. He was pronounced dead at the scene from the injuries he sustained in the hit and run.

An autopsy has been scheduled with the Middlesex County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Authorities say officer Joseph Angelo of the Woodbridge Police Department and Detective Don Heck of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office determined that the driver was traveling South on Route 1, at approximately 1:23 am, struck the victim near Clover Leaf Cemetery, and then fled the scene.

Investigators believe the vehicle sustained damage to the front-end passenger side.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Officer Angelo at (732) 634-7711 or Detective Heck at (732) 745-8842.
