A drive-by shooting that sent two people to the hospital is under investigation in the City of Orange.

According to a preliminary investigation, police responded to reports of shots fired that rang out in the 100 block of Central Avenue near Oakwood Place at around 8:30 p.m.

Several police units arriving at the scene found a male victim struck in the leg by gunfire. Police say, they also found a woman suffering a gunshot wound to the chest at that location.

Police believe a white vehicle, occupied by three to four masked suspects, pulled up in the area and began to fire multiple rounds in the direction of the victims then sped away from the scene.

It is not clear if the victims were the intended targets at this time.

The pair were transported to University Hospital in Newark where they remained for treatment according to reports.
