Newark – Acting Essex County Prosecutor Robert D. Laurino and Newark Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose announced today that the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force, which includes detectives from the Newark Police Department, is investigating a fatal shooting.
According to a statement released by police, just after midnight today Janell Johnson, 25, of Belleville was fatally shot in the 900 block of Franklin Avenue in the Stephen Crane Village Housing Complex.
EMS transported Johnson to University Hospital where doctors pronounced her dead at 12:54 am police said.
The investigation is active and ongoing.
Police say at this time, no arrests have been made.
