Update: Belleville Man Strikes Officers with Car, Leading Multi-Town Pursuit

A 22-year-old Belleville man had several police departments involved in a multi-town pursuit after he allegedly hit two police officers with his car Sunday afternoon.

Sunday afternoon, officers responded to the Route 23 Hooters restaurant parking for a report of suspicious activity.

Upon arrival, Wayne officers investigating the report, saw Nicholas Vizzone inside a BMW with marijuana allegedly on the front seat.

As one of the officers of two officers approached the vehicle, Vizzone put the BMW in reverse, hitting the two officers knocking them to the ground.

As Vizzone fled the scene, one the officers knocked to the ground ensued the pursuit.

The pursuit continued through Nutley, Belleville and ultimately entering Newark.

Vizzone came to a stopped at the corner of Franklin and Mill streets in Newark, where he then took off on foot.

During the struggle, Vizzone pushed and a responding officer into the path of an arriving Essex County Sheriff's car. Despite the struggle, Vizzone was quickly apprehended.

He has been charged with three counts of aggravated assault on police officers, assault with a motor vehicle, criminal eluding, drug possession and various traffic offenses.

He was ordered held in lieu of $50,000 bail.
