UPDATE: Arrest Warrant Issued for Newark South Ward Shooting Suspect

Police officials in Newark are reporting that a warrant has been issued for the arrest of Kevin Mizell, 47, of Newark, in connection with a shooting that occurred on Tuesday, February 4, 2020.

Police say shortly after 12:30 a.m., officers responded to 180 Jelliff Avenue on a call of shots fired. Police located a male victim who had been shot.

According to police, the victim was transported to University Hospital for treatment and is reportedly in stable condition.

Detectives investigating this incident have identified Kevin Mizell as a suspect and secured a warrant for his arrest on charges of aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.

While police are actively searching for Mizell, we seek the public’s help in quickly locating him as part of this investigation.

Mizell is described as 6’2” tall and 200 lbs. He has a medium brown complexion, black hair and brown eyes.
