UPDATE: 4-Year-Old Child, Man Struck by Car in Newark’s South Ward

The driver of a vehicle who struck two people on a Newark street on Friday evening stayed at the scene and cooperated with police during the investigation of the incident.

According to police, at approximately 4:40 police responded to the vicinity of Bergen Street and Avon Avenue after receiving reports of a pedestrian struck.

Police arrived at the scene and found an injured 4-year-old boy and an adult male on the ground suffering severe injuries after a car struck the pair at the intersection according to a brief statement released by police.

EMS rushed both victims to University Hospital where Newark Police officials said they are reportedly in stable condition.

The cause of the incident remains under investigation by The Newark Police Department.

There were no arrests or citations immediately reported.
