UPDATE: 36-Year-Old Bloomfield Man Critical After Fall from Bridge Inside Watsessing Park

Authorities in Essex County are investigating an incident where a man fell from a bridge inside a county park in Bloomfield causing critical injuries.

According to a statement released by police, at around 9 p.m. Friday night, two adult males were in a discreet location in Watsessing Park alongside the brook in a heavily wooded location when one man, a 36-year-old Bloomfield resident, fell into the water.

Police say the other man called the Bloomfield Police Department for assistance.

Officials say, several officers arrived momentarily and assisted in pulling the victim out of the water where they then administered CPR before placing the victim in an ambulance to be taken to University Hospital in Newark.

Officials say, the Essex County Sheriffs Department and NJ Transit Police arrived at the scene, and the investigation was turned over to those agencies.

According to officials, Bloomfield Police officers were sent to University Hospital to follow up, and as of now, the victim is alive but in critical condition.

The investigation remains active and ongoing.
