UPDATE: 2-Year-Old Girl Injured in Targeted Shooting in Newark

Police in Newark are reporting that they are investigating the shooting of a 2-year old girl that occurred in the area of 14th Avenue and South 6th Street today.

“Our detectives have determined that this was a targeted incident. Unfortunately, a child has become a victim," Director O’Hara said. “Thankfully, it appears she will recover from her injuries and there is no danger to the community.”

Police said at approximately 2:06 p.m., police responded to a ShotSpotter notification of gunfire in the area and were alerted that a 2-year old arrived at University Hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound.

The child is reportedly in stable condition.

While detectives are investigating this incident and actively following all leads, we seek the public’s help with identifying any suspects to bring those responsible to justice.
