UPDATE: 12-Year-Old Pedestrian Fatally Struck by Bergen County Sheriff's SUV on Route 208 in Fair Lawn

Bergen County officials are investigating a pedestrian strike that killed a child on a New Jersey roadway on Sunday evening.

According to a brief statement released by Fair Lawn Police officials, a 12-year-old boy was fatally struck by a Bergen County Sheriff's Officer on Route 208 while walking on the highway with a sibling at approximately 9:05 p.m.

Police officials said the officer who struck the child with the SUV was transported to an area hospital in an unknown condition.

Authorities closed all lanes for the crash investigation.

The investigation remains active and ongoing and no identity has been released at this time.
