Newark law enforcement personnel are looking into the motive behind a shooting that injured a male in the city's West Ward Friday evening.
According to police, University Hospital officials notified them when the victim entered the medical center's emergency department suffering a bullet wound around 7:40 p.m.
Police arrived at the hospital and were told by the victim that a gunman fired shots at him in the vicinity of 71 South Munn.
Police say the victim was dropped off at the hospital in a private vehicle held for the investigation.
Officers canvassed the West Ward area for a crime scene and other evidence to support a motive.
Police say the shooting victim is expected to recover.
