Union Police Capture Carjacking Suspect in Newark

A pursuit of a vehicle that was occupied by suspects reportedly wanted for a carjacking in Union, came to an end in Newark's Central Ward overnight.

Police in Union attempted to pull over a black Dodge Charger wanted for a carjacking that refused to stop at around 12:45 a.m.

The vehicle sped off prompting officer to track the vehicle in the area of Jones Street and 14th Avenue where the vehicle crash into a building at that location.

Officers engaged in a foot pursuit when two suspects bailed from the vehicle heading towards Court Street.

One of the suspects was apprehended in the 700 block of Martin Luther King Boulevard (near West Kinney Street) while assisting officers began a search for a black male suspect who was last seen wearing a dark t-shirt and jeans.

The exact location of the Union carjacking has not been released at this time.

There were no immediate reports of injuries.
