Union Man Arrested for Falsely Reporting Carjacking in Newark

Officials announced the arrest of Curtis A. Richards, 36, of Union, for falsely reporting that he was carjacked on June 25th.

According to authorities, Richards reported that his blue 2013 Honda Accord was stolen at gunpoint by a female passenger who accompanied him to the Division of Motor Vehicles at 228 Frelinghuysen Avenue, where he said the incident occurred.

Detectives investigating this incident developed evidence that Richards falsely reported the carjacking.

Police arrested Richardson and charged with Tampering with Evidence and Making a False Report.

These charges are merely accusations. The suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
