Union Armed Carjacking Under Investigation

An armed carjacking at gunpoint that occurred overnight in Union is under investigation by police.

This incident originated near the Dunkin Donuts in the 1400 block of Stuyvesant Avenue where police were called to the scene at around 2:30 a.m.

According to preliminary reports, while the victim was attempting to enter the vehicle, two black male suspects approached armed with a gun and a knife then demanded the victim's red 2004 Toyota Camry with a reported NJ license plate number "NNB-12X".

Police were able to trace the vehicle via of an unknown pinging device, left in the car, to a neighborhood on Fleetwood Place in Irvington where they located the occupied vehicle and began to follow reports said.

The suspects refusing to stop, had police continue to follow the car to Martin Luther King Boulevard in Newark where the suspects bailed out the vehicle as initiated a foot pursuit.

Officers reportedly captured both suspects without further incident.

There were no physical injuries immediately reported.

The investigation is active and ongoing.
