Two Shot, Seriously Injured in Newark

An investigation is underway into a shooting that left two people seriously injured last night in Newark. 

Police responded to several reports of shots fired that occurred in the area of 16th Ave. and South 8th Street at around 7:30 p.m. 

Upon arrival, authorities found a victim suffering gunshot wounds at that location. EMS rushed the victim to University Hospital where the victim was listed in serious condition.

Police searched several blocks around the shooting scene where they later learned that a male victim was self-transported to University Hospital injured by gunfire shortly before 8 p.m.

It is not immediately clear if this victim was shot at the original shooting scene as residence said heavy police presence was observed as far away as 13th Ave. and South 8th Street. 

The victim's condition has not been released as of this morning.  

The shootings are under investigation by Newark Police.
