Two Severely Injured After Gunmen Fire Nearly 50 Shots in New Brunswick Neighborhood

New Brunswick

Middlesex Country authorities are reporting at least two severely injured victims after gunfire rang out in a New Brunswick community near Rutgers University overnight.

Officials say gunmen repeatedly opened fire at unknown targets in the 20's bock of Delafield Street just before 1:25 a.m.

When police arrived at the scene, officers immediately secured the area and set up a crime scene after they found nearly 50 shell casings on the ground and two severely injured, unconscious and unresponsive victims at that location.

Police say there were other injuries, but they have yet to determine if the victims suffered gunshot wounds at this time.

Both shooting victims were rushed to Robert Wood Johnson University Medical Center in critical condition, according to police.

The motive for the shooting is under investigation.

No arrests have been reported.
