The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office is investigating a devastating Thanksgiving Day fire in Orange that claimed the lives of two residents.

Officials have not yet released details on how the blaze began or the circumstances leading up to it.
However, preliminary information paints a heartbreaking picture of a fast-moving fire that overwhelmed a quiet neighborhood.
Around 4:55 p.m., firefighters were dispatched to 660 Mosswood Avenue after multiple 911 callers reported flames inside a home.
Crews arriving on scene were met with heavy fire ripping through the upper floors of a two-story, wood-frame house.
A second alarm was immediately transmitted as firefighters stretched multiple lines in an effort to beat back the flames.
As a large plume of flames rose over the house, neighbors stood outside watching in disbelief.
Firefighters were quickly told there were people trapped inside, prompting crews to push into the burning structure despite intense heat and rapidly spreading fire.
By the time the flames were knocked down, the destruction was severe.
Firefighters contacted the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office after two individuals were found deceased inside the home.
The cause of the fire remains under active investigation.
The American Red Cross is providing needed assistance to about 8 residents.
No additional information has been released at this time. More details will be shared as they become available.
