A shooting that left two people injured this afternoon in Newark is under investigation.
According to preliminary reports, police responded to reports of shots fired that rang out in the 100 block of North 13th Street near 6th Avenue where officers arriving at the scene found a male victim struck by gunfire just before 4 p.m.
EMS transported the victim to University Hospital suffering gunshot wounds to the arm and leg.
While police were investigating the crime scene, University Hospital officials informed them that one additional gunshot victim was transported to the hospital by a private vehicle just before 5:30 p.m.
Police say the suspects exited a silver vehicle and began to fire shots at the victims before speeding from the scene.
The motive for the shootings remains under investigation.
Both victims are expected to survive according to reports.
