TWO DEAD IN SEPARATE NEWARK SHOOTINGS

An afternoon of separate shootings in Newark have left two people fatally wounded and at least one person in serious condition. Police first responded to reports of shots fired on the 100 block of Muhammad Ali Ave. around 3PM where a male was reportedly found shot multiple times in an apartment at that location. The man was taken to University Hospital a short time later where he died from his injuries according to reports. There was no description of a suspect given in the shooting. The identity of the victim has not been released at this time. 

About an hour later,  gunfire rang out on the 200 block of South 8th Street rushing  police to the scene where they  found said to be  in his  early 20's, shot multiple times at that location. EMS rushed the man to the hospital where he reportedly died from his injuries a short time later. EMS transported a second victim that was struck by gunfire to University Hospital. The victim is said to be in critical condition. 

Police setup a large crime scene in the area, also conducting searches on South 9th Street for evidence. Residents in the area reported seeing two black males running from the scene a short time later. 

It is not clear if the two shootings are connected.The Essex County Prosecutor's Office and Newark Police are investigating.
