Trespasser Fatally Struck by NJ Transit Train in Orange

NJ Transit officials are investigating a train strike that left a trespasser dead overnight in Orange.

According to a preliminary statement from NJ Transit, the incident happened just east of the Highland Avenue train station, where train number 6942 left Dover at 11:03 p.m. heading to NY Penn Station and expected to arrive by 11:39 p.m.

NJ Transit officials say the train struck an unidentified adult male trespasser who entered the tracks at approximately 11:17 p.m. and was struck by a Morris-Essex Line train.

Offcials say the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident did not cause injuries to about 28 people on board the train, according to NJ Transit.

There were about 45-minute delays on the Morris-Essex Line as police conducted the investigation.
