TONIGHT: Annual Fire Prevention Night in Linden

Linden

The Linden Fire Department invited the community tonight its annual Fire Prevention ‪Night.‬

“We invite the entire Linden community to come out, have fun, and most importantly, learn about fire prevention techniques that can save lives,” said Linden Mayor Derek Armstead. “By participating in the event, we hope the community will become acquainted with the brave professionals of our fire department who will show us all how to prevent or avoid fire injuries or loss of life,” he concluded.

“This year we want to stress the motto of firefighters around the country when it comes to fire casualty prevention, which is: ‘Every second counts, plan two ways out,’ ” added Linden Deputy Chief Lawrence Kolesa. “So if your house is on fire, have two ways to escape. For instance, if the living room is on fire or your normal doorway is blocked, we are asking the public to be prepared to climb out of a window in another room. That simple preparation and not having a single way in or out, may save your life,” Chief Kolesa said.

The event ‪start at 5 pm until 8 pm.‬ in front of Linden City Hall, 301 North Wood Avenue.

The event will feature a display of the department’s equipment and apparatus, including Fire Engines, Ladder Truck, Ambulance, Decontamination Truck, Rescue vehicle, and Quick Attack Foam Vehicle. There will also be a vehicle extrication demonstration, free giveaways, bike raffles for the children, hotdogs and a smoke trailer.

Other organizations that will be in-attendance are the Linden Police Department, Linden 911 Dispatch, Linden Office of Emergency Management, NJ Sharing Network, NuStar Energy, Linden Philips 66 Bayway Refinery, Linden Home Depot and others.
