Toms River Couple Arrested After More Than 40 Suspected Car Burglaries

Toms River

A Toms River couple accused of more than 40 car burglaries around the township was arrested Thursday, according to police.

Within the past month, there were more than 40 car burglaries to unlocked motor vehicles during the overnight hours mainly on the eastern side of the township near the Fischer Boulevard area.

According to police, yesterday Detectives Louis Santora and Steven Bucci arrested 20-year-old Cody Diaz and charged him with multiple burglaries and thefts. Diaz, who resides on the 1400 block of Windsor Avenue, was taken into custody after a stolen gift card was used at a retail location.

The gift card from a local establishment was stolen from a vehicle during one of the burglaries. This establishment was apprised of the theft and they were asked by Detective Bucci to contact him if the card was ever presented for services.

Diaz's girlfriend, 18-year-old Marissa Huschak, of Harrison Road, received a gift card from Diaz presenting it for redemption. The store clerk contacted detectives which arrested Huschak for receiving stolen property.

Diaz was also observed on residential surveillance footage committing the crimes.

The detectives continue to piece together the chain of events and any connection to the remaining unsolved incidents.

Diaz is being held on $25,000 bail and Huschak was released pending a later court date.
