Tires Slashed on 42 Cars in Manville

MANVILLE, N.J. – Somerset County Prosecutor Michael H. Robertson, Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Chief of County Detectives John W. Fodor and Manville Borough Chief of Police Mark Peltack, announced the investigation into a motor vehicle fire and approximately 42 tire slashings which occurred between the hours of 1 a.m. and 3 a.m. on Wednesday.

These incidents occurred in the northwest section of Manville Borough.

Prosecutor Robertson stated that on at approximately 3:01 a.m., Manville Police Department responded to a 9-1-1 call reporting a fully engulfed motor vehicle fire in the area of North 8th Avenue in Manville.

Officials say Manville Fire Company responded to extinguish the fire and the Manville Fire Marshall was on scene to investigate.

Upon responding to investigate, detectives from Manville Police Department were advised of approximately 42 reported tire slashing of residents in the northwest section of Manville.

Detectives from the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and Crime Scene Investigation Unit responded to conduct an investigation along with Manville Police Department.

A K-9 Officer from the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office responded to assist with the investigation.
