Prosecutors said 24-year-old Zion J. Langhorne is charged with first-degree attempted murder, along with multiple second-degree offenses that include unlawful possession of a handgun, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, certain persons not to possess a weapon, and eluding.

The charges stem from an incident on September 13 around 5 p.m., when Asbury Park Police responded to the 1200 block of Washington Avenue after receiving reports of gunfire.

Detectives later determined that three shots were fired from a vehicle toward a group of individuals, though no injuries occurred.

Investigators from the MCPO Major Crimes Bureau and Asbury Park Police identified Langhorne as the person responsible.

When officers attempted a motor-vehicle stop later that day, prosecutors said Langhorne fled, ignored commands to stop, and drove off while committing several traffic violations that put others at risk.

The case now moves forward in Superior Court.
