Three Suspects Arrested in Paterson Shooting

Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes, U.S. Marshall Juan Mattos, Jr. and Paterson Police Chief Ibrahim Baycora announce that based upon an investigation by the Paterson Police Department, in conjunction with the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office, US Marshals Service NY/NJ Regional Fugitive Task Force.

Newark Division, and US Marshals Service Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force, Ismael Marrero, 31, from Paterson, Luis Marrero, 27, from Paterson, and a 17-year-old juvenile have been arrested in relation to a shooting investigation that took place on November 18, 2019, in the area of Paterson Avenue Paterson, New Jersey.

Officials say, Mr. Luis Marrero is charged with Attempted Murder, First Degree; Armed Robbery, First Degree; Conspiracy, First Degree; Unlawful Possession of a Handgun, Second Degree; Possession of a Handgun for an Unlawful Purpose, Second Degree; and Possession of a Defaced Firearm, Fourth Degree.

Mr. Ismael Marrero is charged with Attempted Murder, First Degree; Armed Robbery, First Degree; Conspiracy, First Degree; Unlawful Possession of a Handgun, Second Degree; Possession of a Handgun for an Unlawful Purpose, Second Degree; Possession of a Defaced Firearm, Fourth Degree; and Certain Persons not to have Weapons, Second Degree.

The 17-year-old juvenile is charged Attempted Murder, First Degree; Armed Robbery, First Degree; Conspiracy, First Degree; Unlawful Possession of a Handgun, Second Degree; Possession of a Handgun for an Unlawful Purpose, Second Degree; and Possession of a Defaced Firearm, Fourth Degree.

On November 18, 2019, members of the Paterson Police Department responded to the area of Paterson Avenue Paterson, on a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, the police located evidence of a crime scene and a 23-year-old male Paterson resident who suffered a non-fatal gunshot wound according to officials.

The victim was immediately transported to Saint Joseph’s Regional Medical Center in Paterson for treatment. Based on the investigation, three suspects had approached the victim to rob him and, in the course of the robbery, shot the victim. One of the actors, Luis Romero, was apprehended on November 20, 2019, another actor who was identified as a 17-year-old.
