Police officials in Newark are investigating two separate shootings that sent several people to a city hospital.
In the first shooting incident, police responded to reports of shots fired that rang out in the vicinity of Hawthorne Avenue and Dewey Street at around 7:45 p.m.
Arriving police agencies found evidence that a shooting had occurred but no victims were found.
Officials at the Beth Israel Hospital contacted police when a male victim suffering a non-life threatening gunshot wound to the leg entered the hospital's emergency department shortly before 7:45 p.m.
The victim reported to police that he suffered the shooting at the Hawthorne Avenue crime scene.
A black male suspect with a beard and last seen wearing a white t-shirt was observed leaving the scene in a light colored vehicle eastbound on Hawthorne Avenue.
The second shooting incident had police officers in the 20's block of Johnson Avenue where gunfire rang out in the South Ward community before 11:30 p.m.
Two victims were reportedly transported to the hospital in private vehicles, but their injuries were not immediately reported as life threatening.
Police have launched an investigation into both shootings.
There were no arrests reported.
