Three Injured in Newark South Ward Shooting Incident

Newark

Police in Newark are on the search for a gunman who fired multiple rounds in a South Ward neighborhood that struck and injured three people Saturday night.

According to police, the incident happened at approximately 9 p.m. in the 50's block of Willoughby Street.

Police say an armed suspect fired at victims in the area then immediately fled the scene.

Officers arrived and found two victims struck by bullets at that location. Both of the injured were transported to University Hospital in stable condition, according to police.

While officers canvassed the crime scene, officials at Beth Israel Hospital contacted officials when a male victim entered the emergency room suffering bullet wounds.

Police say they believe the hospital walk-in victim was struck at the Willoughby Street shooting scene.

The motive for the shooting is under investigation. This incident was not related to protests that occurred around Newark.
